Under Pressure Cover

Today we work out  what song we  were going to do  for our cover. We came up with a few ideas but the 2 most of us wanted to do were  "Go Your Own Way" by  Fleetwood Mac or "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie. I was in a group with Sienna (flute), Kira (Vocals), Matt (piano), Brayton (guitar), Lachlan Z (bass guitar), Frankie (vocals)  and    Ezra (drums).

Today we decided  that we were going  to do Under Pressure. We also work out what we were going to change to make it our own cover.  We decided that we were only going to do the  chord only for the intro and bridge, get rid of verse 3, 5, 6 and 7 and repeat the bass riff 4 times to end the song. Due to COVID restrictions we had to change who played what instruments so Sienna changed to the bass guitar and Kirra  changed to the piano.

Today we rehearsed    our cover of "Under Pressure" and realised  that the song was a bit short and we needed a better ending. So we added back verse 7 and a instrumental section in between verse 2 and 4.

Today we  rehearsed and added an instrumental section before verse 7 to make it flow better and changed the ending to only playing the bass 2 time instead of 4  and finish on the lyrics "under pressure".

Today we recorded our cover of "Under Pressure" it took us a few times to get the perfect recording and then we did a fun one at the end of the lesson.

Comparative Analysis:

The duration in the original song and our cover are fairly similar in that they are both in 4/4, have a tempo of  120 bpm  and  they both have a rock backbeat. The difference in duration between the to is that in the cover we use short and long note values in different ways.  The pitch in the original and cover analysis are the same  in that they both are in a major tonality,  wide range of notes and the chord progression  DAGA is used throughout the entirety of the song.  The structure of the original is intro, verse 1, bridge, verse 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, outro while our cover is intro, verse 1, instrumental, verse 2, instrumental, verse 4, instrumental, verse 7, outro.  The texture is different in that the original has a thick polyphonic texture while our cover has a thick homophonic texture. The instruments used in the original song of "under pressure are a electric guitar,  a bass guitar, a keyboard, 2 male vocals and a drum kit and the instruments used in our cover of "Under Pressure" are  2 bass guitars, keyboard, female vocal, 2 electric guitars  and   drums.  The dynamic and expressive techniques in the original are the use of crescendo    and decrescendo  and the dynamic and expressive techniques used in our cover are an accent on beat 1.
